Barack Obama says southern US storms 'catastrophic'

President Barack Obama says the damage from deadly tornados in south-eastern US states is "catastrophic", as he prepares to visit storm-hit Alabama.
Mr Obama hailed rescue workers as heroes and said he stood with every affected American.
Storms and tornados across a wide area have killed at least 250 people, including 162 in Alabama.
A state of emergency has been declared in seven states, and federal aid money is being sent to Alabama.
Deaths and widespread devastation are also reported in Tennessee, Mississippi, Georgia and Virginia.
