British Red Cross: working across borders - Event
- 4-1-2011
This year’s lecture at the Royal Geographic Society will be hosted by Sir Nicholas Young, chief executi
ve at the British Red Cross. He will be joined by Paul Jenkins, head of partnerships development with the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, and Laura Moody from our London refugee and international tracing services. They will all describe their personal experiences working for the world’s largest independent humanitarian organisation.
The Red Cross is a non-political, non-religious organisation and this neutrality provides us with unique access around the globe. We are often the only organisation able to cross borders and front lines to bring help wherever it is needed most.
Paul Jenkins will describe his experiences working overseas for the organisation, explaining how our neutrality gives us privileged access and provides an important protection for delegates in volatile situations. Laura Moody will speak about our work with refugees and asylum seekers in the UK.
This lecture provides a fascinating opportunity to find out what life is really like for the Red Cross when working in crisis situations. At the end of the talk, there will be time for questions from the floor.
